I believe that there are enough natural resources in the World, land, trees, agricultural crops, livestock, water, natural gas, oil, coal, and minerals, that if these resources were divided more equally among all the people of the World, there would be less poverty and suffering.
I sometimes think of how strange and unfair it is, that some people in the Unites States are Billionaires, which for the people who don’t know, a billion is one thousand million, while at the same time there are individuals who are homeless, hungry, and dying from poverty. On the one hand, the Billionaires have more money than they or their descendants will need in their lifetimes, while thousands of young children in the United States who have done nothing to deserve their poverty, they lack food, clothing, adequate shelter, and medical care.
In the 20th Century, there were some places in the World, where there were so many poor people in comparison to the number of wealthy people, that there was a Communist revolution, where the poor people forcefully took control of government, land, natural resources, wealth, factories, and infrastructure with the intention of having public ownership of everything. This happened in Russia, China, North Korea, Vietnam, and Cuba.
Unbeknownst to the masses of poor people who participated in or went along with the Communist revolution in their countries, they might have thought that they would have greater liberty, freedom, and standard of living, but they instead came to find that they were living under a totalitarian dictatorship, with no tolerance for dissent of any kind, very few choices, very few options, and just as much or more poverty than they had experienced before.
Communism appears to be a good idea because of the equal or more fair sharing of resources among everyone. It has appeal to idealistic people, altruistic people, poor people, people who believe that life is unfair, and people who believe that they have been taken advantage of, this covers about 99.9% of people.
Because Communism and Socialism have aspects that 99.9% of people believe in, such as the belief that the majority of the World’s resources are unfairly and unjustly owned by 0.1% of the population, Communist and Socialist political movements often did gain tremendous support, whether it was the complete successful takeover of government in some countries, attempted takeover of government in other countries, or the passage of legislation where the government provides more socials services and entitlements for people in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France and other countries.
The educated people who wrote about, explained, and proposed what later became know as Communism, in Ancient Greece, early European and Middle East Countries, and later Thomas Moore of England, Victor d’Hupay and Jean Jacques Rousseau of France, Robert Owen and Charles Fourier of the United States, and then finally Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, these people likely came to know and recognize that the implementation of Communism is strongly limited by the obstructions of human nature.
Before I point out the obstructions of human nature that make Communism not work, people like Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Ho Chi Minh, Pol Pot, and Fidel Castro realized that they had too good a political platform and a political tool with Communism, that they could use to unite or ally potentially 99.9% of people, not to use it.
The reason why Communism doesn’t work, is because in human nature there is greed, ambition, selfishness, fear, sloth, laziness, gluttony, envy, jealousy, pride, and hate. To illustrate why Communism doesn’t work, let me give a hypothetical example below:
Imagine that in whatever city or town you live in, the national government suddenly became Communist, and began making efforts to create the equal sharing of resources.
If you were a single male who worked as a trades person, you would be issued a white Ford F150 pickup, single cab, bench seat, two wheel drive. You would be issued a one-bedroom apartment. Your hourly wage rate, whether you were a truck driver, carpenter, welder, electrician, plumber, or equipment operator, would be $10 per hour. Your work week would be 40 hours per week, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Due to pride, ambition, selfishness, greed, or fear, most trades people would object to this equalization process. They would think that they were better off when they were being paid $20 per hour, working 50 hours per week, and could afford to drive a Dodge 2500 pickup, with extended cab, and four wheel drive.
These trades people who felt like they were being taken from and prohibited from earning what they were truly worth, would say things like, “For $10 per hour, I am not going to do shit.” or “That $10 per hour, is going to be the most costly $10 per hour they ever spent when I get done working on their shit.”
Some trades people after getting paid for their wages on Friday, some of them would lose most of their pay on gambling on football, boxing, horse races, pool, or cards. Some trades people would spend most of their money on illegal drugs. Some trades people would spend most of their money on prostitutes.
Some trades people, being dissatisfied with being paid only $10 per hour, would seek to improve their situation. Every day after they got off of work at 5:00 p.m, they would mow lawns, paint houses, shovel snow, or perform carpentry, whatever they could do to earn additional money.
In one month’s time, you would already have a great disparity in wealth among the trades people. Some of the trades people would have no money, and perhaps not even their government issued apartment or Ford F150 pickup, because they had lost everything due to gambling or illegal drug use. While at the same time, other trades people would have saved all of their earnings and made additional money by doing additional work outside of their normal job.
In the example that I gave above, it was so simple and obvious to see, that due to human nature, some people tend to lose whatever they have, while some people tend to increase whatever they have. Even in one week’s time, or one month’s time, some people tend to lose whatever they have. How can you ever make sure that people are equal?
Unfortunately, perhaps the only way to ensure that people are equal, is through a totalitarian government which restricts people and resources greatly, so that all people have no personal freedom, and are all very poor.
In order to make sure that some people do not get ahead of other people, a totalitarian government would have to thwart and squash any attempt by any individual to express himself to get other people to believe in him, his ideas, to follow him, be persuaded by him, or do what he says. This leads to travel restrictions, restrictions on speech, restrictions on publication, and many activities being banned. This necessarily leads to the ban on organized religion, organized groups, organized meetings, or public assembly. It also leads to the imprisonment or execution of any person who seeks to be heard, express his ideas, inform others, speak about change, or attempt to get ahead financially.
I hope that any person who reads this blog post article can understand that the more equal sharing of the World’s resources is a good idea, that would cause less poverty and suffering. But due to human nature, even if a One World Government were able to divide up all the World’s resources equally among all the World’s people and have everyone start over on what was called Day 1, just seven days later, some people would have nothing, and some people would have twice as much as everyone else.
Due to human nature, the only way for a national government to ensure that people are all equal, is through the strictest control on individual travel, freedoms, activities, and expression. Even a single individual speaking his mind to others, is enough to cause a shift or disruption in equality. If a single individual can persuade even a few people that he has “the answer”, “the way”, or “change is needed”, he can control the resources, behavior, and actions of these few people. Therefore freedom of expression must be strictly controlled by the government in order to maintain equality.
I hope that it will not diminish the explanations in this blog post, if I point out that the promises of people like Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, the Canadian government, and the British government to provide more and more social services and entitlements to its citizens, is leading more and more to Socialism, and eventually a One World Government for more effective centralized management of the World’s people and resources.
In order for a One World Government to ensure that all people all have an equal amount of resources, all people will be greatly restricted and controlled, in order to counter and deal with the difficulty of human nature.
