Today I read an article in the Bowman County Pioneer Newspaper about a person named Jason Dodge running for Sheriff of Bowman County.  When I first saw this newspaper article headline, I thought to myself, is everybody running for Sheriff now?

I am glad that I read this entire newspaper article, because it looks like Jason Dodge would be by far the best person for Sheriff of Bowman County at this time.  I have met the other candidates who are running for Sheriff, and they are nice people, but Jason Dodge is a much better candidate.

There are four main areas that I can point to, to explain why Jason Dodge is what Bowman County needs at this time:  1)  He is not afraid to clearly identify several very significant problems with the Bowman County Sheriff Department and the Bowman Police Department that need to be corrected right away.  2)  He has specific remedies and solutions to fix these significant problems that need to be corrected right away.  3)  He has identified the drug problem in North Dakota as the primary source of most crime, he has vowed to aggressively root out all drug activity in Bowman County, and he has explained his plans for how he would attack the drug problem in Bowman County.  4)  He has had much more extensive and intensive training in law enforcement from having worked for the U.S. State Department Diplomatic Security Service.

To first address Jason Dodge’s qualifications, after serving in the military, he became employed with the Diplomatic Security Service.  This involves working in foreign countries, where every day, 24 hours per day, of your tour of duty, you have to expect, detect, and defend against a bombing, terrorist attack, assassination attempt, kidnapping, espionage, sabotage, theft of classified material, spying, blackmail, extortion, counter intelligence operations, and compromise of personnel.  This is much more intense duty than most Sheriff Departments, Police Departments, or Highway Patrol Departments.

Jason has stated that he will have his personal telephone number posted in the local phone book, so that he can be reached 24 hours per day, and that he will make sure that the Sheriff Deputy on duty will always be reachable by telephone.  He has promised that he or his deputies will respond to all calls, even if they might appear to others as trivial or frivolous.

Jason has stated that he will make sure that there will be complete cooperation between the Bowman County Sheriff Department and the City of Bowman Police Department.  He recognizes that there must be sharing of information, resources, and working together with other law enforcement agencies.

Jason has expressed that he will have zero tolerance for illegal drug use, and that he will have Sheriff Deputies receive additional training in recognizing illegal drug users and illegal drug behavior.  This is the first time that I have seen any member of law enforcement in North Dakota understand that you have to recognize drug users as the first step in following the trail back to the small dealers, bigger dealers, suppliers, and transporters of illegal drugs.
