This morning I read a comment that a reader submitted about one of my blog posts. The reader, “Dan”, identified himself as a black man, and he wrote that he planned on impregnating as many white women as possible in Dickinson. I thought about what he wrote. I didn’t care if he did impregnate as many white women as possible in Dickinson, in fact, I wished him great success.
In many of my blog posts I complained about the people in Dickinson being unfriendly, uncooperative, and hostile; about all of the waitress and bartender women being unfriendly, hostile, and crazy; and about the people, employers, and manufacturing companies in Dickinson hating educated people. I finally, finally, realized what my problem is.
My problem is, that I am white; I graduated from a very good large university with a degree in engineering; I worked as an engineer, estimator, inspector, superintendent, and project manager; and that I don’t have a criminal record. That is a lot of bad things as far as the people in Dickinson are concerned, and I realize now that I will never be able to overcome these bad things in Dickinson. What makes me even more contemptible is that I don’t drink, smoke, use drugs, have warrants, children, ex-wives, child support, civil judgments, bad credit, bad manners, or bad health. I could not be more unwelcome in Dickinson, with so many things wrong with me.
When I thought about the comments written by the black man “Dan”, I thought that he might be on to something, Dickinson needs more black people! They don’t like me, maybe they will like black people.
When I go to restaurants in North Dakota and leave a 20% to 30% tip, the waitresses don’t like it, or me, but I am white, maybe they will like black people!
When I go to work for a company in North Dakota, and do more than what I am supposed to do, they don’t like it, but I am white, maybe they will like black people!
Now that I think about it, all the women shopping in the grocery stores, all the women working in grocery stores, all the women exercising in the West River Community Center, all of the women working in the West River Community Center, all of the women in the Prairie Hills Mall, all of the women in Dickinson are longing for black men!
Now that I think about it, all of the employers that keep advertising for the same positions again and again, like the St. Alexius Hospital, Steffes, Fisher Industries, what they really want are black men!
All of the professors, administrators, and women students at Dickinson State University, what they are really looking for are black men!
All of the newly constructed apartment communities in Dickinson, what they are really looking for are black men!
Why I didn’t realize this sooner, I don’t know, but now that I do know, I can spread the good news across the United States and around the world! All that the men and women in Dickinson ever wanted was black men!
Now that I understand that the people in Dickinson are unfriendly, uncooperative, and hostile because they really don’t like white men, and that all they ever wanted was black men, I will begin writing blog posts to try to get as many black men as possible to move to Dickinson.

There’s the link. ^ The one thing readers are (still) thinking is ‘if this guy’s so dam* great and and hates this place so much, why is he still here?’ They’re asking that rhetorically, knowing why you’re still here (and benevolence it ain’t). BTW, husband and I came here in 2015. Have you heard the old aphorism about people in new places? You know, the guy asks a local “So how are the people here?” Local replies, “How were the people in the place you left? People here are like that.” (That said, you know I agree with you that prices for single family homes are obscenely inflated for the product offered).
The black people here tend to be wonderful, motivated, hard-working people. They came here to make a life for themselves, like any decent people do.
